One of my favourite albums to listen to when I'm saddened by the destruction of natural habitat and the ignorance of so many people. Thank you Alda for creating this!

The fittingly titled “Passage” finds Alda further strengthening their bonds as musicians and honing their style into an even more earthen and evolved fusion of black styled metal often revered in their location, and a passionately spirited folk presence. Alda have noticeably grown as songwriters while not forsaking the roots of their core sound. It marks a vital addition not only to their own impressive catalog, but to the ever growing North American “black metal” community. Passage is an all-encompassing journey into the mountains and environs surrounding them, another monumental release combining nature oriented aspects, underground metal DIY ethic's and spirituality.
"In short, if Agalloch, WITTR or even old Ulver ever moved you, you need this." - TERRORIZER
"Alda have made a gigantic impact with “Passage,” a mid-way point contender for album of the year considerations and easily the best thing in their already impressive catalog. From the first time I heard this thing, I was captured. Every moment of this album is real, personal, human, of the Earth, all of those seemingly conflicting things combined. “Passage” is an album that may have made its mark in 2015, but its majesty and grace will live for calendar years well into the future. It’s that good." PICK OF THE WEEK! - MEAT MEAD METAL
"It’s a deeply atmospheric, tremendously moving work and a great successor to Tahoma. I hope you’ll enjoy it a much as I have."
- NO CLEAN SINGING
"Drifting steadily and seamlessly into one another with an almost seasonal succession, the interconnected atmospheres and sentiments of the five tracks comprising Passage shows Alda has moved beyond the youthful trap of releasing a collection of songs, to releasing an album. The most coherent body of work the band has ever released, Passage is a beautiful, aggressive, melancholic and hopeful entity, and will provide an exquisite listen for anybody who has ever been enthralled by the rush of the river, hush of the forest, or the simple introspection of cathartic, passionate, and truly heartfelt music." - UNHOLY NOISE
"Passage by Alda is a passionate work from musicians who place their heart and souls into each and every word and note they unleash upon the world at large. Fans of Agalloch, Alcest, Catherine Wheel, and Drudkh should check into the breathtaking concoctions found within Passage by Alda – surely a vibrant discovery one will wish to revisit time and again." - HIGHWIRE DAZE
"...if you admire bands who paint a mental picture and who create music as art rather than a tool of commerce, then ‘passage’ is an essential addition to your collection." - SONIC ABUSE
"ALDA gelingt mit "Passage" also ein Musterbeispiel für atmosphärischen, naturverbunden Black Metal, der noch ein Stück weit kantiger als der von WITTR und nicht ganz so Post-Rock-lastig wie der von FALLS OF RAUROS ist." - STORMBRINGER 4,5 / 5

Recorded in the Spring through the Fall of 2014
at Crooked Tree in rural Pierce County, Washington by
Nate Myers, Pythagamus Marshall and Alda.
Environmental samples gathered at Crooked Tree and Ruby Beach, WA. Movie sample from “Jeremiah Johnson”. Mastered in 2015 by Mell Dettmer in Seattle.
Born within the thick forests of the US's Pacific Northwest, Alda has spent years cultivating their sound of dense,
suffocating banks of black metal fog and moody folk riffs.
Since their inception in 2007, this 4 piece has been dedicated to a lifestyle founded on respect and communication with the soil on which they dwell....more
Mikolaj is a real multi-talent in bass as well as guitar as well as vocals and "Darkside" Maciej's drumming is a well-calibrated 100th-of-seconds-clockwork. Not for nothing is Mgla considered as a standard for a lot of other blacker-than-black metal bands. I hope to see this band live once..... grote_smurf
Very late to the party, but for several years I've found melodic black metal all too similar and all albums sounding like Dissection, etc... HOWEVER, not only I am back into it but UADA is still a layer of complexity above the main baseline and this is an old album worth having, that's a basic milestone in UADA's discography and I felt it needed to be part of my BC collection. sachavonkarl74
Absolutely apocalyptic atmospheric black metal full of towering, epic songs that stretch all the way out to the gloomy, misty horizon. Bandcamp New & Notable May 22, 2023
